Hayu Marca Village, Lake Titicaca, Peru
During our August 2009 Pilgrimage to Peru, we visited the Sacred doorway of Amaru Muro. While at this site doing a traditional pipe ceremony we were visited by what seemed like the whole community of Hayu Marca! I counted between 60-70 children, grandmothers and grandfathers that joined circle with us. They were invited to smoke the pipe and the children participated by touching the pipe as it went around the circle. After the ceremony, the community elder and school teacher spoke of their challenges and their needs. The participants of the pilgrimage gave $20usd and the next day we brought food, clothing and balls for the children. It was a very emotional experience for all of us, including the people of Hayu Marca! I made a promise to the people that I would return to the Village on our next Pilgrimage(March 2010) with some of the things that they were asking for to help this community be sustainable.
Which is;
sheep, cows, seed, warm/dry clothing, school supplies, school bags and I would like to bring some sport type games for the children!
This community is desperate. Our ceremony and our gifting circle seemed to lift their spirit! I would like to help them be a more sustainable community by providing them with the things they need to become that. This community makes little money selling weaving's and stone carvings for the people that visit the Sacred doorway of Amaru Muro.
*Please help me to bring Spirit back into the lives of these people by making a donation. I will be going back to the community in March of this year while on Pilgrimage and will be video taping in the school, community and the gifting of donated items.
The following are pictures that we took of the Gifting Circle, Sacred doorway of Amaru Muro and the area they are guardians over.
